One of the most unsettling dreams I have ever had was this one. The dream began as any normal day of mine would, with me waking up in my room, immediately going to my computer and opening YouTube for some junk videos I can put in the background while I do literally anything else. During this shitty ritual, I come across a conspiracy theory video which I find funny, so I decide to click on it just to laugh at it.

The theory in question implies that a certain species living on Earth evolved naturally to mimic humans, our appearance, voice and everything else, so they can hunt us down. They infiltrate our society through its most influential members such as celebrities and politicians and slowly devour us from the inside. After finding this out I didn't think much of it, but the more I thought about it and the more I looked at the people around me the more paranoid I felt, and that feeling of discovering something I shouldn't have began to set in. Then I woke up.

After waking up, it all felt so real I still got kind of unsettled upon looking at anyone, even looked at my history to see if I watched anything like that, but in my (relatively minor) experience nightmares always start making less and less sense the more you return to reality, and eventually I got over it. Now, the more I think about it the more stupid it all sounds, that I would find out the "full truth" from a fucking youtube video and that something like that would go undiscovered in today's society. I remember watching a video on the uncanny valley that presents a theory about an ancient species that mimicked the appearance of a human to prey on us, that being the reason why we feel uncanny at "human-looking-but-not-quite" things. I probably won't forget this dream for a long long time, the feeling of dread just sitting in my room alone being the part that I think about the most.
